I'm standing on the bridge
I'm waiting in the dark

Naruto sat idly by the bridge where Team 7 would meet, patiently waiting. He leaned his head back onto one of the cool, metallic bars, sighing apathetically. Gazing upwards, the blonde grimaced. It looked like it was going to start pouring any minute. The sky was covered with a blanket of grey, overshadowing the normally blue view. Naruto blinked in suprise. A drop splattered on his nose. Great. Now he was going to be soaking wet in a matter of minutes. He quickly ran under the nearest tree, trying to shield himself from the offending rain. It worked, but only barely. The pace of the raindrops quickened, dampening the poor boy in seconds.

Well, that didn't matter. He was wating for someone.

I thought that you'd be here by now

Naruto checked at his watch, reflecting on the good decision to get one that was waterproof. The small, blinking numbers read 6:42. He was late. Naruto slumped against the tree, a bit miffed.

"The idiot was always punctual. Why break that habit now?"

Nothing to worry about, though. He would see him soon enough. Right?

There's nothing but the rain
No footsteps on the ground

Naruto glanced back and forwards, looking around. He should be able to hear him any minute. That familiar "Oi," that small smile. A tiny grin sneaked its way across Naruto's lips at the thought. Seeing nothing, he crossed his arms in dissapointment. That was just like the bastard to keep him waiting like this. Naruto wiped a damp hair from his face, flicking the water away. Of course, that was about as useless as an umbrella in a waterfall. As if to spite him, it rained even harder.

"Oh, come one..." He murmured to himself, brow furrowed in frustration.

I'm listening, but there's no sound

"Oi, dobe."

Naruto turned, seeing that familiar deadpanned face behind him. He tilted his head to the side in a question. Odd, Sasuke never talked to him so casually like this.

"What?" Upon realization of what he was just called, he said, "And don't call me 'dobe!'" Apparently, Naruto had grown accustomed to the name. He didn't react as much as before anymore.

Sasuke rolled his eyes. "Look, meet me by the bridge, okay? 6:30. Don't be late."

Sasuke didn't even give Naruto a chance to respond. The brunette had already turned on his heels, walking away.

"Tch, bastard," Naruto muttered under his breath.

Isn't anyone trying to find me?
Won't somebody come take me home?

Naruto sneezed, shivering a little. It was getting colder, and the evening was getting closer. Naruto checked his watch again. 7:23. He'd been waiting for over a half hour, and for what? The blonde considered leaving then and there. But something made him stop. Morbid curiosity, perhaps? Or maybe the boy was just being unrealistic. In all honesty, he was looking forward to their meeting. In all truths, ever since Sasuke came back, things had been awkward between them. Maybe this could give them time to clear the air, so to speak. Of course, there wasn't going to be any air to clear if the bastard didn't get here soon, because a certain blonde was getting a little pissed off.

It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life

And so, with a strange (and somewhat pointless) determination, Naruto crouched back onto the ground, trying not to get his pants dirty with mud. Leaning against the trunk of the tree, he crossed his arms, glaring at the sky like it was the source of his problems. Which, upon reflection, it was, but not the main dilemma. As uncomfortable as a wet jumpsuit was, he was willing to ignore it. If and when the bastard finally got the nerve to show up, he was sure to get an earful.

Won't you take me by the hand, take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are but I, I'm with you

The sky was getting darker as night drew near. Naruto huddled his knees towards his body for warmth. What the hell was he doing out here at this point, anyway? It was all probably just a joke, just a prank. A trick to get Naruto sitting in the rain like a complete idiot.

Well, if that's what the bastard wanted, then I should congratulate him later. He sneezed again, this time louder. Then I'll kick his ass.

Naruto's eyes closed halfway. He was getting a little sleepy.

I'm with you

The blonde shook his head, an attempt to rid himself of the damp hair that obscured his vision. Alas, it was to no avail. His vision was getting blurry, and he was feeling somewhat lightheaded. But he persevered, trying to obtain a functional state of mind. In an almost perverse way, he wanted to see Sasuke coming up to him, umbrella in hand, smirking at him. Just to prove that he was right, that it was all just a ploy to make him miserable. As per usual.

He was almost afraid to look at his watch.

8:36.

I'm looking for a place
I'm searching for a face

Tears unexpectedly gathered at his eyes. He didn't want to start crying, not now, not ever. It felt like if he started to cry even one bit, then that would be like admitting defeat. And as we all know, that is the one thing that he was uncapable of. Unfortunately, there are times that you had to admit defeat, and times that it was shoved in your face.

Is anybody here I know

Hot, messy tears trailed silently along the contours of Naruto's face. His eyes reddened, silently releasing long-awaited frustration. He felt betrayed. He honestly thought that there was some chance that Sasuke had grown somewhat human, but he geussed that was hoping for too much. And so he cried in the deafening silence, not making a sound. Who knows? Maybe if Sasuke came by, he'd think it was just the rain...

Cause nothing's going right and
Everythings a mess

Wiping his eyes with the arm of his sleeve, he closed his eyes. His body suddenly felt heavy. It was almost like there was a gigantic weight on his shoulders, like a lead apron he couldn't take off. His arm flopped needlessly to the side. The blonde's entire body slumped, as he drifted into the welcoming oblivion of unconsciousness.

Sasuke...

And no one likes to be alone

"Naruto? Are you still here? I-"

...

"Oh, shit!"

Isn't anyone trying to find me?
Won't somebody come take me home?

Naruto woke up, head pounding like crazy. He was reminded of Ero-sennin. He supposed this was similar to what it was like to have a hangover. After over two years of training with him, he was bound to encounter the experience, though not first-hand. There were plenty of mornings where he heard Jiraiya complaining to himself about his aching head.

Naruto looked around, suddenly aware of his surroundings. He didn't recognize this place at all. The bed he was laying in was about twice the size of his own, the room much bigger. He looked at himself, blinking in suprise. He had new pajamas on. What the hell? Looking around, he saw his clothes drying on a chair across the room. Okay, now he was freaking out a little. None of these things were good signs.

"Well, maybe except for the new pajamas, it would have been a pain sleeping in wet-"

Naruto rapped his knuckles on his head upon realization of how stupid his train of thought sounded, even in his own head. So he did the next reasonable thing.

WHAT THE HELL AM I THINKING I HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE WHERE THE HELL AM I WHAT'S GOING ON HEEEELLLLP!

...He panicked.

It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life

Naruto was about to escape out the window when he heard a rapping on the door of the bedroom.

"Shit!

He only hastened his movements, quickly grabbing his (Thankfully dry) clothes from the chair. He was about to go running for how far in his pajamas, but that wasn't important at the moment! The door opened, and Naruto stopped, paralyzed by shock.

Holding the door open was a guilty-looking Sasuke, which soon reverted to a what-the-hell-are-you-doing-you-idiot Sasuke.

"Naruto, what do you think you're doing, and why are you about to jump out of my window?"

Naruto blinked. "This is your house?"

Sasuke rolled his eyes. "I live here, yes."

Naruto got madder. "Well, how am I supposed to know that? Here I am, thinking I got kidnapped, when I find out that YOU took me here. I'd rather have the kidnapping!" He snarled. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be on my w-"

Naruto felt a hand grasping at his wrist. He looked behind him to see Sasuke, looking sad again.

"Don't go."

Naruto had never seen his eyes look so...  vulnerable.

Won't you, take me by the hand, take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are but I, I'm with you

"Last night... I know I was supposed to meet you, but they gave me a mission. I couldn't refuse it, you and I both know I'm on thin ice with Konoha already." A spark of guilt flitted through his eyes, but it was breif. "They've never directly said it before, but I got the impression that if I refused any services towards Konoha, then it's pretty much over for me." Sasuke sighed, looking down on the ground. "The only reason I'm here in the first place is the Sharingan. Konoha's forces are weak, and they need all the allies they can get."

He gave a hollow chuckle. "No matter how unsure the circumstances."

I'm with you

"Sasuke..." Naruto murmured. He stepped down from the windowsill, thinking hard. So it wasn't a joke?

Won't you, take me by the hand, take me somewhere new

"I came by, with the hope that you would still be waiting, pissed off and ready to yell your head off at me," Sasuke continued, a brief sensation of mirth in his voice. "But that would have been okay. And when I saw you, you were unconscious."

Naruto racked his brain, trying to remember. He remembered it getting dark, feeling sleepy...

Sasuke shrugged. "So I took you home with me." A light tinge of pink showed, a deep contrast to his alabaster skin. "I mean, what was I supposed to do?"

Naruto paused, a question suddenly weighing on his mind.

"So... What is it you wanted to tell me, anyway?" Naruto asked.

I don't know who you are but I, I'm with you

Sasuke hesitated, keeping silent for a moment. He shrugged, as if to say, 'What have I got to lose?'

"I wanted you to give me something." He said flatly.

Naruto, confused, tried to geuss what Sasuke would want from him. When he couldn't think of anything at all, he asked, "What did you want from me?"

I'm with you.

Sasuke glanced to the side, refusing to meet Naruto's eyes.

"You," He said quietly, "With me."

I'm with you

Naruto let a bright smile bloom on his face. He took Sasuke's hand in his, blue eyes shining with something Sasuke hadn't seen for a long, long time.

"I think I can give you that."
I'm not a huge Avril Lavigne fan, but I do like this song. Popped into my head one day.

Kinda sad, but it gets happier. ^_^;

SasuNaru, shonen-ai, blah blah blah. (Actually, it's strong friendship until around the end.)

WARNING: SAPPY, CRAPPY ENDING.

I like the fic overall, but the ending bothers me. Damn. Oh well, feel free to ignore it. Just don't flame me, okay?

The song I'm With You does not belong to me.

Naruto does not belong to me.

This fic does.
